From Wednesday October 17 until Sunday October 21 the new car park of LAC cultural centre (Lugano Arte e Cultura) will be open exclusively to pedestrians. From the ramps of the car park three permanent exhibits by Ticino artist Felice Varini will be visible. These works are the first to be acquired for the collection of the future art museum in the LAC, whose opening is scheduled for 2014. The car park will be accessible every afternoon from 3pm until 9pm. Opening for cars is scheduled for October 22.

The three works were inspired by the same approach: coloured zones that at first sight look like random fragments covering walls, guardrails and railings but which form up into geometric shapes as soon as the observer takes up a precise viewpoint. The images that are revealed to the eye appear to expand and alter space and architecture. Descending the ramp of a predictable and functional place like a car park becomes an experience in perception, a preview of the kind of surprises the LAC has in store. Since the 1970s Felice Varini, who was born in Locarno in 1952 and now lives in Paris, has been famous for his interventions on urban spaces and architectural structures. Uninterested in the work of art as an object, Varini manipulates space and tries to get viewers directly involved, inviting them to enter the scene and personally set off the mechanisms he has designed to deform perspective and space. Today Varini's works are on display in the world's most important museums and characterize entire landscapes

To mark this show of Varini in the car park videos documenting his intervention at the LAC was well as his career and other works will be shown. Opening for cars is scheduled for October 22.

Von Mittwoch, dem 17. bis Sonntag, dem 21. Oktober öffnet das neue Parkhaus des Kulturzentrums LAC (Lugano Arte e Cultura) seine Tore exklusiv für Fußgänger, damit sie die speziell für diesen Ort geschaffenen Werke des Tessiner Künstlers Felice Varini entdecken können. Die drei Installationen auf den Rampen des Parkhauses sind die ersten für die Sammlung des neuen Museo d’arte im LAC erworbenen Objekte. Die Eröffnung des Kulturzentrums LAC ist für 2014 vorgesehen. Diese durch Ort und Inhalt außergewöhnliche Ausstellung ist für fünf Tage zwischen 15.00 und 21.00 Uhr geöffnet.

Die drei Arbeiten sind inspiriert von einer gemeinsamen Logik: Wie zufällig und fragmentarisch ziehen sich auf den ersten Blick Farbmuster über Wände, Leitplanken und Geländer, um jedoch dann zu geometrischen Formen zu werden, sobald sich der Betrachter in einer bestimmten Position befindet. Die so gezeigten Bilder erweitern und verändern Raum und Architektur. Der Abstieg entlang der Rampe in einem so funktionalen Ort wie einem Parkhaus wird zu einer Wahrnehmungserfahrung und damit zum Auftakt für die Überraschungen, die das LAC in der Zukunft zu bieten haben wird. Felice Varini, geboren 1952 in Locarno, lebt heute in Paris. Er wurde gegen Ende der siebziger Jahren mit seinen Installationen in urbanen Räumen und Gebäuden berühmt. Varini manipuliert den Raum immer mit Blick auf die direkte Beteiligung des Betrachters, der durch seinen “Auftritt” aufgefordert ist, die Mechanismen der vom Künstler vorbereiteten perspektivischen und räumlichen Verzerrungen zu erleben. Seine Werke befinden sich heute in den wichtigsten Museen der Welt und prägen ganze Landschaften.

Zur Varini-Ausstellung im Parkhaus werden eine Dokumentation der Entstehung der Arbeit sowie Videos zu Werdegang und anderen Werken des Künstlers gezeigt. Das Parkhaus ist ab Montag, den 22. Oktober für Automobile geöffnet.

Da mercoledì 17 a domenica 21 ottobre, il nuovo autosilo del centro culturale LAC aprirà in esclusiva ai pedoni per visitare le opere dell’artista ticinese Felice Varini. Le tre istallazioni permanenti, collocate sulle rampe del parcheggio, sono le prime opere realizzate per la collezione del nuovo museo d’arte al LAC. Per cinque giorni, l’apertura straordinaria è prevista tutti i pomeriggi tra le 15.00 e le 21.00.

La logica che ha ispirato le tre opere è comune: campiture di colore che a un primo sguardo sembrano percorrere i muri, i guard-rail, le ringhiere, in modo casuale e frammentario, si compongono in figure geometriche appena l’osservatore raggiunge una precisa posizione. Le immagini che si rivelano all’occhio ampliano e alterano spazio e architettura. La discesa lungo le rampe di un luogo prevedibile e funzionale come un parcheggio diviene così un’esperienza percettiva e un preludio a quanto di sorprendente il LAC stesso potrà offrire.
La fama di Felice Varini, nato a Locarno nel 1952 e oggi residente a Parigi, si lega a partire dalla fine degli anni Settanta agli interventi in spazi urbani e costruzioni architettoniche. Indifferente all’opera quale oggetto, Varini manipola lo spazio e mira al diretto coinvolgimento dello spettatore, chiamato a “entrare in scena” per innescare in prima persona i meccanismi della deformazione prospettica e spaziale predisposti dall’artista. Le sue opere sono oggi visibili nei più importanti musei internazionali e contraddistinguono interi paesaggi.

L'esposizione di Varini è accompagnata da documentazione video girata durante la realizzazione delle tre opere nell'autosilo e da un documentario che racconta l'artista e, attraverso altre opere, il suo particolare approccio all'arte. Lunedì 22 ottobre, a esposizione conclusa, l’autosilo del LAC aprirà alle automobili.
